Carmen Zayas

VP People

Carmen leads the people function at Merit. Her work is focused on elevating the employee experience, and promoting our culture. By aligning our people processes, systems and practices with Merit’s People Strategy, Carmen works collaboratively with our leadership to increase employee engagement, retention, recognition and solidify our value proposition to our employees. Carmen’s experience in systems thinking, building teams, developing leaders, and elevating all the facets of the employee journey, helps Merit hire and retain professionals who thrive and grow in our collaborative customer-driven culture.

Carmen has over 25 years of successful experience in organizational leadership, talent acquisition and talent management, HR and employee relations in companies of diverse sizes – startups, large corporations, mid-size companies. And has led the people function in a multitude of industries; tech, construction, landscape, retail, as well as large non-profits.

Carmen received her Master of Organizational Leadership & Ethics from St. Edward’s University in Austin. Her undergraduate degree is in Journalism/Communications. She has her Senior Professional in Human Resources certification, and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.


Carmen enjoys reading, baseball, tennis, gardening and spending time with her family. Married for over 30 years, with two wonderful adult kids Carmen lives in Cedar Park, Texas.
